Also known as Scarlet Strawberry, Common Strawberry, Virginia Strawberry, or Mountain Strawberry, Wild Strawberry grows across much of North America. A hybridization of this species resulted in commercial strawberries. The berries are smaller than commercial varieties, but are tasty. The plants spread primarily via runners. Although not aggresive, they can slowly invade lawns or flower beds if planted next to them. If this is not desired, the runners should be cut or moved so that they are not growing into areas where they are not wanted.
